This is one thing I didn’t want to learn.

If you’ve read my blog more than once, you probably know I like to make smoothies. And to blog about them. I’m also rather adept at moving my content fairly high up in search engine ranking. I gotz my moves, ya see.

After posting a blog I titled, “Bad A** Raspberry Smoothie,” I noticed that I started getting search hits on the term “A** Smoothie.(Asterisk use is quite intentional here, and they should be considered S’s, if you haven’t figured that out.)

Oh, some people like smooth butts, I think, naively, to myself. OK. No big deal. But I kept noticing these search terms that were leading folk to my blog. Curious, I typed the term in Google.

Mercy!

My sensibilities have been flustered. This is not the kind of traffic I want on my site. Yes. Promptly, I have removed said terms from my blog. Mercy, mercy, mercy.

By the way, the updated blog post is now called a Darn Good Wild Raspberry Smoothie. Not nearly as cool. But more functional, given my temperament.

  • LOL. That is hilarious and a perfectly written blog post.

You can only imagine how disappointed people were when they searched Google and came up with your site.

  • ewwww! I always tell my friends that no matter what strange things you try to think up- someone is probably already doing it. (I couldn’t resist doing the search!)
It really doesn’t matter to me what people do, and I’d really like to think that I’m rather open-minded about lifestyle, etc, but it’s kinda strange that we have to think about “how will this get returns on google searches depending on word choice?”
It’s a little bit of irony that we have to use the same self-censoring that we would have used 20 years ago in traditional media- it’s just we’re avoiding bots and crawlers instead of censors and fundamentalists!

    • Haha. I think you just articulated what my main point was: It’s not that I would want to deny anyone their pursuit of happiness — whatever form that would take among consenting adults. The issue here is I have to censor myself against bots and crawlers. Well said, John. Thanks.
